I didn't realized how much I loved Jackie Chan till I saw The Foreigner trailer. And considering that I'm seeing him in REAL LIFE at Beyond Fest, I couldn't resist doing a trailer reaction for his new film! Based on the 1992 novel, The Chinaman by Stephen Leather, the film follows Quan Ngoc Minh, a business with a buried past who seeks justice when his daughter is killed in an act of terrorism. A cat-and-mouse conflict ensues with a government official (Pierce Brosnan), whose past may hold clues to the killers' identities.

I don't think Jackie has released a film in the United States since The Karate Kid starring Jaden Smith so naturally, I'm incredibly elated to see him in another film. While we know Jackie as the goofball action star, The Foreigner shows a darker and serious side to him and I'm loving it already! And I am not going to lie, I almost cried watching this trailer because Jackie reminds me so much of my own father. I can't wait to watch serious Jackie in action!

I went to LA Film Festival this year and one of the best film I saw there was Ingrid Goes West (See vlog). It was their closing night film and I had no idea what to expect and boy, it hit me like a ton of bricks. The film follows Ingrid, who after the death of her mother and a series of self-inflicted setbacks, moves to Los Angeles to try to befriend an Instagram star, Taylor Sloane. Undeniably, this is one of the most accurate depictions of social media since EVER! 

As someone who is just as obsessed with social media as anyone else living in this digital age, I felt personally attacked by the film. It was so accurate in it's portrayal of the LA socialite and our social media habits that this supposedly "satirical" film was jarring. Aubrey Plaza has never been better as the mentally ill fan girl who just wants to have friends and O'Shea Jackson Jr. as the most grounded and hilarious character in the film. Ingrid Goes West's screenplay is painstakingly humorous while the direction is razor-sharp, making this film, easily one of the best films of the year.

I don't talk about Superhero movies that often but when I do, it's because it looks as good as Ryan Coogler's Black Panther! The story follows T'Challa who returns home to the isolated and technilogically advanced African nation to succeed the throne after his father, the King of Wakanda dies. This film has the most stacked cast I've seen, starting with Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Michael B Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and so many more! I got even more excited to learn that Black Panther will be coming out February 16, 2018 aka Black History Month! Oh, I can't wait!

The Safdie Bros' of Heaven Knows What (See Trailer) are back with another drug-fueled & intensely brutal story called Good Time. It's about a brother's dangerous quest to get his brother out of jail after a botched robbery. It brings me incredible joy to see Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart alike, reinvent themselves after the Twilight Saga. By the looks of the trailer, we're going to see a side of Pattinson, we've never seen before. The film got raving reviews at Cannes and naturally, A24 picked it up alongside Sean Baker's The Florida Project. Good Time comes out August 11th!

I adore everything Bong Joon-ho has done since Barking Dogs Never Bite and I didn't expect anything less in his latest film, Okja! I knew it would most likely have a political message, young female lead, and possibly a large creature in the film but never in my wildest dreams did I expect something like this. Maybe because Bong's films are usually grim compared to the dream-like and effervescent-ness of Okja but it looks refreshing and I'm excited. Netflix will drop the film June 28th but hopefully we can catch it on the big screen as well because by the looks of it, it's going to be downright beautiful.

It's finally here and it's happening! Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot is coming out this week and I couldn't be more excited! Is this the first ever Wonder Woman film to ever exist?! It's about damn time! The film has already been getting rave reviews and it only solidifies my love for this mystical woman who is Wonder Woman. Did not realize how big of a fan I was till I realized I was her for Halloween and own a Barbie-version of her. If I still have my costume, I will dress up as Wonder Woman to watch the film. If not, I'll still try to rock a gold headband! Stay tuned for my review!

This trailer for Atomic Blonde almost slipped through my radar and I'm so glad I caught it because it's one of the most badass things I've seen yet! Charlie Theron can do anything in my book. She was an incredible villain in the latest installment of the Fast and the Furious series, Fast 8, and now as a top-level spy for MI6, she can do no wrong! It's no wonder why this film looks and feels like John Wick considering it's by the same director, David Leitch! Theron kicks some serious ass and is definitely taking names come July 28th!

What a hell of a trailer, Luc Besson's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is! For the first time ever, I decided to do a double trailer reaction to this film and my god, I am blown away by its spectacular visuals and stacked cast which includes Rihanna! Did you hear me? Rihanna, I tell you! I'll do anything for Princess Riri. I mean, Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne aren't bad together either. Their talent and beauty alone makes them one of the most hippest couple to ever grace the big screen. I have very high hopes after seeing the trailer but it looks so good that I'm scared that it'll be bad. I guess only time will tell when the film comes out July 21st!

It feels like forever since I saw Ana Lily Amirpour's The Bad Batch at Beyond Fest last year! The trailer for it finally came out and it's always a delightful surprise to see how they edited the trailer. Safe to say, there is no misleading or spoilers shown, it is just as eccentric and transcendental as you think it would be. Sofia Coppola's latest film The Beguiled, is just the kind of thriller we didn't know we needed! Adapted from Thomas Cullinan's novel, A Painted Devil and the 1971 film adaptation starring Clint Eastwood, the film stars an incredible line of women: Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Angourie Rice and of course Colin Farrell.  Think the Virgin Suicides with less teen angst and more sexual tension! O la la! The Beguiled comes out on June 23rd by Focus Features. This is gonna be a good one!

Kristen Stewart has teamed up with Olivier Assayas once again to bring us a ghost story called, Personal Shopper. Y'all know, I don't do ghost stories but I didn't realize that till the end of the trailer so I'm in for a reaaaal treat! Stewart was in Assayas' previous film Clouds of Sils Maria where she went to win the Cesar Best Supporting Actress Award, making her the first American actress to win a Cesar Award (French equivalent to the Oscars). Personal Shopper is a film that seems like it'll challenge Stewart to face certain demons while providing a dense story about loss. It comes out March 10th and so I still have time left to build up some courage to watch it!

Arshad and I did another trailer reaction and this time to J.D. Dillard's Sleight! It premiered at Sundance last year and got picked up by Blumhouse Productions and WWE. After his mother's death, a young street magician (Jacob Latimore) turns to dealing drugs to support his little sister. When she is kidnapped by his supplier, he uses his magical abilities and intelligence to find her. I adored Chronicle so I know I'm going to enjoy Sleight especially because it is set in the inner-cities and the combination of the environment and this kind of story is something I've never seen before. I know we said the film comes out April 7th but it comes out on the 28th so get ready!

The Blade Runner 2049 teaser is truly a tease. Capping at a minute and a half, we see that Harrison Ford is continuing his role of Rick Deckard and Ryan Gosling as Detective K who needs Deckard's help to unearth a long-buried secret. I'm glad that one of the original writers, Hampton Fancher, is returning to write this sequel. So lower your volumes a bit and watch me scream my head off every five seconds. This is going to be a good one!

Like most people, I was skeptical about Blade Runner getting a reboot, sequel, or whatever Hollywood is always concocting up to ruin all our favorite original films. But once I heard Denis Villeneuve's name attached to the project, my disdain quickly turned into elation because that is one man that can do no wrong! Villeneuve has consistently released some of the most groundbreaking and thought-provoking films in the last decade to shows that he can play with the big dogs in Hollywood on his own terms. And that's not something to fuck with.

HOLY SHIT. This trailer came out of nowhere it's possibly the best thing I've seen. Get Out is Jordan Peele of Key & Peele's directorial debut film and surprisingly it's a horror film! And it's not like any horror film you've seen before because it truly deals with the horrific prejudice and racism that is occurring in America today, which is infused with other elements of the horror genre. So brilliant. What we get is a bone-chilling story straight from hell. I'm sure this scenario is many people's ultimate nightmare including mine with all it's complex and layered storylines. Get Out comes out in February and while I'm scared shitless, I can't wait to see this!

Holy crap, Tom Ford's sophomore picture Nocturnal Animals looks so dang good! This psychological thriller is based off of Austin Wright's 1993 novel, Tony and Susan. It has a talented and beautiful-looking cast consistingAmy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Laura Linney and more. After Ford debuted with A Single Man, I was instantly a fan and am so happy to hear that Nocturnal Animals won the Grand Jury Prize at Venice Film Festival. The film comes out December 9th, just in time for Oscar season!

Another month, another Marvel film in the works and this time, it's Doctor Strange! And speaking of strange, I honestly didn't even know who Doctor Strange was till someone mentioned that Tilda Swinton was playing an Asian character. Even with that distasteful choice in casting, the premise doesn't sound too interesting. The film follows a brilliant but arrogant surgeon who gets a new lease on life when a sorcerer takes him under his wings and trains him to defend the world against evil after his career is destroyed. The trailer makes it seem like the films going be Inception + Karate Kid, which I'm not too hyped to see. Check out my reaction and let me know what you think!
