As a teenager, there seems to be an overwhelming amount of pressure to lose one's virginity by the influence of the media, peers, and even culture. countless young girls have projected and used their bodies in ways, way beyond their years. here i showcase, one example of how pressure and expectations has effected these young girls.

indiewire.com says: “The Housemaid,” a remake of the 1960 Korean film of the same name, has been picked up for North American release by IFC Films. Billed as an “erotic thriller,” Im Sang-soo’s film made its world premiere in competition at Cannes this year.

The story focuses on Eun-yi, played by Jeon Do-yeon, who becomes involved in a destructive love triangle while working as a housemaid for an upper-class family.

what a freaking beautiful trailer though. sang-soo im directed the president's last bang (2005) which cause a lot controversy in korea centering around the assassination of president park chung-hee. In 2005, the Seoul Central Court ordered that 3 minutes and 50 seconds of documentary footage (mostly of demonstrations) be censored out of the film. In response, the director had the excised footage replaced with a blank screen for its running time. During its theatrical run, both nationally and internationally, only the censored version was shown.if you havent seen it, its definitely worth checking out.

i went through a wide range of emotions while watching this from nostalgia to happiness to sadness and back around. it just showcases the sheer genius of pixar and the films that theyve made in the past 15 years. the video was edited by leandro copperfield and although there are some clips i probably wouldve left on the cutting room floor, i nonetheless thoroughly enjoyed this.

p.s. im quite surprised that they used the xx in this but its a nice touch..

ok im pretty sure that if i saw blue valentine, the king's speech, or another year, it wouldve probably replaced kick-ass but im just going to put it in for my list for the best films in 2010.

i really freaking loved the social network and really hope it wins best picture at the oscars. this is what owen gleiberman of entertainment weekly had to say about the film:

it's been a long time since we saw a movie that's a zingingly scripted, boldly acted, intricately executed thriller for the brain and a brilliant topical riff on what's really happening in America. Jesse Eisenberg, in the finest performance by an actor this year, plays Mark Zuckerberg as a magnetic jerk-hero who invents Facebook not just because he feels like an outsider, but because he has an idea to rewire who we are. Eisenberg speaks Aaron Sorkin's genius-on-every-level dialogue with a speed-of-thought blunt sincerity that has you hanging on every rudely intoxicating word. In the twin lawsuits that frame it, the film sees Zuckerberg as pitiless but, in his misanthropic grand-scheme way, justified. as my final for my diverse media class, i was required to make a short and i chose to make a documentary. so chhhhhheck it out!!

kees van dijkhuizen is backk!!! i went searching for his cinema 2010 after witnessing the epicness of his cinema 2009 (click to see). and i must say, i was expecting a looooooooot. but i guess i should blame the lack of good films that came out this year. like seriously on the top of my head, i can only think of the social network, toy story 3, black swan, as some of the top films of 2010. 2009 definitely had more memorable titles that made the oscar race even more stiff. and even though, ive watched a lot of films this year, i can barely name all the clips in the video. maybe every other clip but thats not good enough for me! i must know them all!!! anyways, enough of this psychoness. watch the video and enjoy. i always love watching kees' work. its touching, seamless, and downright entertaining...!! but not gunna lie, im expecting better films in 2011.. bring it on 2011!!!

this has got to be the most depressing film to come out this year. but seeing how im a masochist, i must watch it! john cameron mitchell, the director of hedwig and the angry inch (2001) and shortbus (2006) is back with rabbit hole. imdb says: Life for a happy couple is turned upside down after their young son dies in an accident. Based on a play by David Lindsay-Abaire. sooo depressing but check it out...

i will write a review very shortly but in the meantime look at these stills and weep, cause yeah, its THAT good.

i dont know where to start. i cannot begin to describe how much i hated the warrior's way. after witnessing the horror at the sneak peek in los angeles, i gave it the benefit of the doubt and assumed that the full version of the movie would slightly be better. oh boy was i wrong.

In the 19th century, a warrior name Yang (Jang Dong-gun) is ordered to kill the last member of an enemy clan--a baby. He refuses the mission and flees with the child to a dilapidated town in the American West. Despite his attempts, his enemies close in on him and he must fight to protect the child and his newfound comrades, Lynne (Kate Bosworth).

it is essentially a story of how the east meets the west. there is simple (yet, trivial) formula that can be followed during hard times like these when one like sngmoo lee has a brain fart. i should take into consideration that this film was 11 years in the making but that does not justify how cliche and banal the story and characters were altogether . yes there were decent action sequences but rather than focusing on the goal of each character, the story got lost midway of Jang Dong Gun and Kate Bosworth's characters's love affair. the film in its entirety was not believable even with its advanced "CG." and although, some scenes looked cool with its explosion of pastel colors on the backdrop, there was just no substance to the story. there was no emotional pull. why should i even bother caring about these two people whose troubled past does not tear my heart into sympathetic shreds?

what is more bothersome is the fact that they take great foreign actors and put them into "americanized" blockbusters that doesnt truly show their worth besides their incredible ninja skills. same goes for bi (rain) in speed racer and ninja assassin and lee byung-hun in g.i. joe. i know the studios primarily agree to have an foreign actor be in an action film rather than a drama considering the international appeal of the genre but come on! its so repetitive and overdone, that although these stars are getting global recognition, the film itself devalues their ability and talents back by a tenfold. iiiono, im just saying.

i feel like im being too generous but as a Jang Dong-gun fan, it's a C.

im making a maid documentary at the moment and the star of my film is mayumi tanaka! she works at royal-t cafe, one of the first maid cafes in the los angeles, let along the u.s. while she is not working at the cafe as one of their super cute maids, she is an artist! she is having a show on dec 11, 2010 at the indie collective gallery in culver city. please check her work out shes amazing! and definitely stay put for the premiere of my new doc to find out more about her!!

there was a special Q&A with the crew of 'A Warrior's Way' tonight at Los Angeles' Landmark theater. the event was very exclusive and least to say very personal. They showed bits and clips of the film and discussed how it began, formed and eventually developed into the big blockbuster film. Korea's very own Jang Dong Gun came out to speak with us about his thoughts on the film and the workings behind it. Jang Dong Gun exploded into the scene after 2001's Friend and eventually to 2004's TaeGukGi. Danny Huston of Children of Men (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and Robin Hood (2010) also spoke with us about his villianous role as 'The Colonel." check it out. (click on the video for some translations.) the film comes out DEC 3!!!

p.s. there is another Q&A tomorrow night (thursday, november 18) Landmark Theater in LA. there is also a mini after-party where you can get more close and personal with the crew.

i had a chance to talk to the first time director, sngmoo lee and how he began this project. unlike most directors who have directed numerous films before their first big blockbuster film, sngmoo lee worked strenuously on his first film 'a warrior's way' for 11 years before making his first debut as a director! we just chit chatted some small talk and i ecstatically walked away without asking him if he had any advice for me. haha, but nonetheless, it is clear that his career is just about to start with the release of 'a warrior's way' on dec 3!!!! HWAITING!!

in my previous post i stated that speilberg's plan to remake park chan-wook was mostly likely a dead project. but right when i thought it was too good to be true, first-showing releases an articles saying that theyre going to revive it by possibly bringing it back to spielberg or to matthew vaughn (kick-ass) or danny boyle (127 hours). i spoke too soon.

firstshowing.net says: Since Spielberg is already committed to Robopocalypse as his next feature following completion of his adaptation of War Horse, it's unlikely that he sit in the director's chair. Meanwhile, Matthew Vaughn hasn't lined up a project to follow his current work on X-Men: First Class and Danny Boyle hasn't yet lined up a follow-up project for his recently released 127 Hours. While many fans are certainly opposed to the remake, a new adaptation of the original graphic novel in the hands of the guy who directed Kick-Ass, or a talented director like Boyle sounds fairly enticing. Of course, it's not even a guarantee that this project well ever get off the ground

fuck no. as most cinephiles would say, we really do hate remakes. unless you can tastefully remake it with ones own auteur characteristics and as a homage to the original, DONT FUCK WITH IT. my heart dropped when i heard that steven spielberg and will smith were hooking up to remake Park Chan-wook's Old Boy. (hopefully its dead) the only person that actually made a decent american rendition of a foreign classic was scorsese with the departed. (watch hong kong's version called Internal Affairs!)

but what is this shit? not only Akira planning on being remade but with Zac Efron? and what? the hughes brothers are directing as a two-part adaptation? the hughes brothers previous films were less than memorable and didnt make themselves a "prime" director duo till 2010's book of eli. and even with its blockbuster status and budget, they failed horribly in telling their story worthy of watching.

the guardian says: He is the blue-eyed star of the High School Musical series and dream date for teenage girls across the globe. It is a classic cult Japanese anime and manga comic which maintains a heady reputation among fans of the genres more than 20 years after its initial release. Now, according to reports in the blogosphere, the terms Zac Efron and Akira may become forever connected after the actor was touted to star in a planned Hollywood remake.

who is sngmoo lee and how did he get to direct and write this hollywood film? i think its jang dong gun's first international film but i think itll be great. jang dong jun became hugely popular in south korea when Friend (2001) first came out then continued onto TaeGukKi (2004) and Typoon (2005). check out the trailer, it also stars kate bosworth, geoffrey rush, and danny huston. it comes out dec 3rd.

love love love this trailer. ive watched almost all of inarritu's (amores perros, babel) films besides 21 grams and am even doing my final latin cinema project on amores perros. if that doesnt tell you how much i love this guy, i dont know what will! this trailer really is breathtaking.

ive talked about blue valentine since i first heard about it at sundance and even posted something about it. click here if you missed it. now here is the trailer that weve all been waiting for. even though i havent seen the film, it brings many nostalgic and bittersweet memories for me. there is also another clip that was released showing the couples magnetic chemistry.

the internet not only has become a source of information but a pool of mass communication and networking. so what happens when nev schulman, a new york photographer befriends abby pierce, an eight-year old art prodigy from rural michigan? surprisingly, unlike most online-based relationships, the innocent exchange goes past the facebook friend request. the relationship continuously grows as he befriends her mother, angela, angela's husband, and her hot older sister, meagan, the songwriter. nev's brother ariel and friend henry joost was just in the mist of everything when started to document where this odd relationship would lead.

it quickly unravels so i cannot tell you much more than what can be speculated by the trailer. as the suspicions and notions build up, the reveal is quite anti-climactic. but by no means, should you not be tuned in to the real tragic story behind it all. the vastness of the cyberspace world has built a new-age wave of online relationships that now allows such voluminous room for imagination that no other medium has been able to provide till now. A

i saw the man from nowhere (아저씨) in korea when it was released and didnt think twice about its potential to reach the states. it was just announced that it surpassed 5.7 million viewers and even attracted sixty thousand viewers just between september 17-19. and well, look what we have here, the man from nowhere has arrived to the united states! so if you are in the area, please go and watch it!

allkpop.com: In “The Man From Nowhere”, Won Bin stars as Taesik, a mysterious pawnshop owner who has secluded himself from the world after having lost his pregnant wife in a tragic accident. While the socially awkward pawnshop owner tries to live life avoiding as much human contact as possible, he is reluctantly encountered by the troubled little girl-next-door named Somi (played by child actress, Kim Sae Ron). As Somi makes her regular visits to bother Taesik, she becomes the one person in the world that can soften Taesik’s hardened heart.

this film really delivers to all audiences (& i mean 18+). for the girls, we get the irresistible won bin. for the guys, they get the heart-stopping and fast paced action. for everyone else, its the raw emotions and dark themes presented in the film. there isnt a moment of hesitation or boredom to be felt. rather than the story, i was more focused (naturally) on how it was shot. there were many camera techniques that gave it a voyeuristic feeling which lets the audience to wholly experience the action whether it is won bin shooting someone or jumping out of a window, we are all there with him. we are taken on a deeper ride into the story and unexpectedly takes a turn into a dark corner. and what we find there is something strangely haunting and unfamiliar. the camera moves with such fluidity that it is no wonder why we encounter uninhibited and boundless themes in the story. B+

The images alone should make you want to watch the film, never let me go. it unfolded like pure poetry--thoughtful, lengthy, and daunting. unlike other films, the characters already knew the futility in trying to escape their so called "destiny." B+

While I was in Korea, i fell in love with Miss A and their song Bad Girl, Good Girl. i wanted to create something with my reborn love of kpop and also incorporate time into it. After incessantly hearing and watching Miss A all over the airwaves and on the tube, i wondered what it was like for them to constantly sing and dance the same song and routine so many times that they eventually come to know it backwards and forwards. this is their different points of view...

firstshowing.net says: Even though we already thought South Korean filmmaker Kim Ji-Woon was planning his first US-set film with high profiles actors like Clive Owen and Sienna Miller (reported last year), apparently that won't be his first US feature after all. Latino Review is reporting that Lionsgate has hired Ji-Woon (of A Bittersweet Life, The Good, The Bad, The Weird and I Saw the Devil) to direct a project called The Last Stand. The script was featured on last year's screenplay Blacklist and is apparently an action thriller about a drug cartel with shades of Gone in 60 Seconds and High Noon. This could be a fairly awesome Hollywood debut for Ji-Woon.

if you didnt know already how obsessed i am about asian things in general, now you will know! to me, kim ji-woon is quickly becoming one of the most talented directors from korea right under park chan-wook and bong joon-ho. i saw 'i saw the devil' and let me tell you, its not for the weak! its intense, thrilling, and down-right unrestricted. it was the first korean film to have the restrictive rating 19+. after reediting it three more times, the korea media rating board finally gave it a 18+. then the production companies edited 7 more scenes in fear of inspiring crimes including kidnapping, murders, and possibly even cannabalism (as hinted in the film!) and even then, it was banned from some theaters. im so glad that this was the first kim ji-woon film ive seen and that i actually even got to see it! so, hopefully it comes to the states because even though it got the most restricted rating in korea, to americans, i think itll be ok. completely enthralled!

why i havent posted this up already is beyond me. but apparently monsters is the next big thing. (no pun intended) monsters is a british sci-fi film written and directed by gareth edwards. youve probably never even heard of him cause he is usually the special effects guy. (oh, and he doesnt even have his own wiki page, crazy!) but it is his first time writing and directing his own feature film, which is inspired by spielberg's jurassic park. and amazingly, the whole thing was shot with a crew of only two people using prosumer level equipement. he is possibly the most efficient filmmaker out there considering he wrote, directed, shot, and edited his own film.

firstshowing.net says: Monsters is written, produced and directed by Gareth Edwards, a big up-and-coming filmmaker who shot this on a shoestring budget in Mexico and did all of the visual effects on his own computer. The movie stars Scoot McNairy, who I've actually seen in commercials recently, and Whitney Able. Here's the basic concept: "Six years after Earth has suffered an alien invasion, a cynical journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through an infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border."

if youre a fan of haruki murakami like i am, you will very much appreciate this. my friend austin shin gave me the book norwegian wood for my birthday and i havent stopped reading it. (1. my birthdays in may. 2. im a very slow reader) and so to find out that a film will be coming out based on the book was very exciting for me. rinko kikuchi (brothers bloom, babel) will be playing naoko and ken'ichi matsuyama (nana, death note) will be playing toru watanabe. it is unknown at this point when the film will be released in the u.s. but im sure by 2011 it should be available via dvd or internet. but check out the trailer. there are no subtitles but i think its safe to say that the mood created in the trailer translates more than subtitles can ever say.

DONT WATCH THE EXPENDABLES.

Beth accomando from kpbs.org wrote "the expendables is like dating a jock--no sparkling conversation or subtlety but great to have around when you need to blow shit up or kick some ass." well said beth accomando from kpbs. hahahaha fifteen minutes into the film, Sylvester was talking in his usual incoherent slurs and gestures and it got to a point where my friend and i looked at one another and said, "what the hell is going on?!" not only were we suppose to watch steroid injected men fight each other in hopes of recreating their glory years but now we were to sit and listen to these men talk about nonsense. uh no, not happening. thats probably why i fell asleep.

this was a real opportunity for the "greatest" action heroes of all time to come together and truly make a good action flick. but the ball was missed when the executives let stallone himself direct this film. where was the direction? wasnt there a producer holding his hand and guiding him through the process one second at a time? oh well, he blew his chance. now, lesson learned, dont bring action-flick icons together unless you are really going to make a kick-ass film that will throw the audience off their seat. D

scott pilgrim vs. the world opens exactly how a film should. instead of dullng and distracting our adhd mind by displaying different kinds of animation through the opening credit, it presents the crew front and center while psychedelic swirls are pressed against out eyeballs, already giving a preview of what kind of insanity we're all in for. and boy, were we left satisfied. even if i tried to imagine what great epicness the film was going to present, it did not compare or even parallel to what was experienced.

scott pilgrim is a slacker, a hero, and a bassist for his band 'the sex bom-omb" and basically everything you wouldnt want in a boyfriend. but behold, he falls madly in love with ramona flowers (played wonderfully by mary elizabeth winstead), but must defeat her 7 evil ex-boyfriends.

it is every comic-loving geek's fantasy. it has everything anyone could ever possibly want--hyper-active action. super hot complicated girls. japanese twins with slick gelled hair, nostalgically awesome sound effects from the 90's. it honestly doesnt get better than that. if you havent seen it yet, youre definitely missing out. and if you havent checked out the comic book, scott pilgrim by bryan lee o'malley, youre DEEEEEFINITELY missing out. there is only 6 volumes compared to those japanese manga that has 20+! A

danny boyle's new film starring james franco called the 127th hour! i really just want to wiki and see what happens to him at the end but i shall wait! it comes out nov. 5!

the trailer for darren aronofsky's new film starring natalie portman and vincent cassel, black swan is here!! its completely not what i had expected and reveals a bit of a supernatural vibe. it does feel a bit kafka-esqe: she feels like a black swan therefore she becomes one. dun dun DDUUN! anyways, everything portman does is outstanding so i dont expect anything less than a phenomenal performance from her in this new film.

USA Today: "The dark tale with psychological twists stars Natalie Portman as Nina, a technically brilliant ballerina whose life takes some strange turns after being picked as the lead in a [NYC] production of Swan Lake. Pressures mount as her overbearing mother (Hershey) pushes her to succeed and her manipulative dance master commands her to be more seductive and loose in her performance. Complicating that is the arrival of Lily (Kunis), a sultry dancer who exhibits all the innate ease and sexuality that Nina lacks. Nina begins to fixate on the newcomer as the two forge an unusual relationship." Searchlight is bringing Black Swan to theaters December 1st.

natalie has been keeping herself quite busy. she already has 5 upcoming films including black swan, thor, and my favorite pride, prejudice, and zombies! i honestly cant wait!!! 2011 will be a great year for her.

i got chills. this is the highly praised and controversial film that debuted at this year's sundance.

firstshowing.net says: A reality thriller that's a shocking product of our times, Catfish is a riveting story of love, deception and grace within a labyrinth of online intrigue.

Catfish is directed by young up-and-coming filmmakers Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (also seen in the doc), who are making their feature debut with this after working as dance filmographers in New York City for years. This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was eventually picked up by Relativity Media and Rogue Pictures. Catfish arrives in limited theaters starting on September 17 this fall.
