Once (2006)

Once is like nothing you've ever seen before. It is a contemporary musical, written and directed by John Carney. It is about two struggling musicians in Dublin, who meet one day and collaborate with each other and within a week, record a demo. What is fascinating about this little indie film is that it seems like a documentary and we are taken on a trip with these two lost souls, who have their own problems much like everyone else. And its relatable in that they deal with universial issues such as money and relationships. Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova--who wrote and sung all their songs--give chilling performances as their song "Falling Slowly" are nominated for an Oscar and 2 Grammy awards.
