There Will Be Blood (2007, Paul Thomas Anderson)

Daniel Plainview: [pitching his company to the people of Little Boston] Ladies and gentlemen? Ladies and gentlemen. Thank you so much for visiting with us this evening. Now, I've traveled across half our state to be here and to see about this land. Now, I daresay some of you might have heard some of the more extravagant rumors about what my plans are; I just thought you'd like to hear it from me. This is the face. There's no great mystery. I'm an oilman, ladies and gentlemen. I have numerous concerns spread across this state. I have many wells flowing at many thousand barrels per day. I like to think of myself as an oilman. As an oilman, I hope that you'll forgive just good old fashioned plain-speaking. Now, this work that we do is very much a family enterprise- I work side by side with my wonderful son, H.W.- I think one or two of you might have met him already. And I encourage my men to bring their families, as well. Of course it makes for an ever so much more rewarding life for them. Family means children. Children means education. So wherever we set up camp, education is a necessity, and we're just so happy to take care of that. So let's build a wonderful school in Little Boston. These children are the future that we strive for and so they should have the very best of things. Now something else, and please don't be insulted if I speak about this - bread. Let's talk about bread. Now to my mind, its an abomination to consider that any man, woman or child in this magnificent country of ours should have to look upon a loaf of bread as a luxury. We're going to dig water wells here. Water wells means irrigation, irrigation means cultivation. We're going to raise crops here where before it just simply was impossible. You're going to have more grain than you'll know what to do with. Bread will be coming right out of your ears, ma'am. New roads. Agriculture. Employment, education. These are just a few of the things we can offer you, and I assure you ladies and gentlemen, that if we do find oil here, and I think there's a very good chance that we will, this community of yours will not only survive, it will flourish.

warning: do not read on if you are easily annoyed by overly enthusiastic people.

i dont think anyone has a clue about the passion and attachment i have to daniel day-lewis. i DO NOT care if he is 50 years old or what not. i can honestly say that he is one of the most phenomenal and mesmerizing actors i have ever laid my eyes on. daniel day-lewis and this film is my twilight fix. edward to millions of screaming tweens is daniel day-lewis to me. yes, i am the millions of screaming tweens in one body. imagine that.

and here comes a film based on my favorite italian director, federico fellini's 8 1/2. kill me. this is way too much. im probably gonna do a whole post on just the history of day-lewis' career before the film comes out. and i know i already posted this trailer before. but i think you deserve and owe it to yourself to watch it over and over and over again!!! wheew, i think im going to pass out....

p.s. its very strange cause paul thomas anderson's oscar nominated film was spoofed, twisted, and mocked by many youtubers and im sure he had no intention of having any influence on that.

Even though i had to work on Oscar night once again! I managed to get a glimpse of it right before Daniel Day-Lewis won for Best Actor. I was squealing, jumping, and hypnotized by the television. All the customers thought i was pretty much crazy until i told them that this was my version of the Super Bowl or the World Series. No one seemed to understand but i was ecstatic and full of ecstasy. (Click here for the winners of the Oscar's 2008)

And a friend had told me that there was a skit on SNL about There Will Be Blood, so check it out.

or go here...

Bill Hader's portrayal of Daniel Plainview is astonishing and hilarious. It amazes me how he managed to sound EXACTLY like him. And Amy Poehler as H.W. is hysterical.

I watched 'There Will Be Blood' this week and it left me speechless and mesmerized. After taking a five year vacation, Paul Thomas Anderson (Punch-Drunk Love, Magnolia) finally decided to return to the camera. This movie is an adaptation of Upton Sinclair's novel, Oil! starring one of the greatest actors of the century, Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano. They played their characters with such conviction and intensity that my eyes were glued to the screen for the 160 minutes the film ran. a movie that runs 160 minutes seems like a bit grueling and tormenting but this movie is worth it. Paul Dano who plays Eli Sunday, impressed me and even though his acting chops can never be paralleled to someone of Day-Lewis' stature, but still, it was one of the most potent performances i have ever seen.

This movie made me realize the extent people will go to for money. From the beginning to the end, Day-Lewis who plays Daniel Plainview, displays such a commanding and paramount performance that will be difficult for his acknowledgment to go unnoticed. I'm so proud he won a golden globe for best actor. And anderson truly captured the corruption, lies, and wholly flawed Plainview to perfection.

Anderson who attended NYU for two days but dropped out after turning in some of Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet's work as his own and got a C on it. That just cracks me up. and i think he is a very idiosyncratic director, which makes him that much better. And the musical score was what made the movie whole. Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood composed all of the songs for the film's soundtrack within three weeks. god, i love radiohead.

'There Will Be Blood' is one of the most compelling, fear provoking, and heart stopping film i have ever lain my eyes on. and with this prestigious ensemble, it is no wonder they got a golden globe nomination, and hopefully an oscar nom too. so, don't even bother to get some popcorn, cause your mouth will be open the whole time from awe that you won't even have time to breathe. check it.
