I had heard about Frank when it premiered at Sundance Film Fest earlier this year but before I saw it at LA Film Fest, I wasn't so sure if I even wanted to see it considering it's far-fetched premise was about a leader of a eclectic music band who sports a fake head. But after I watched it, I wholly fell in love with its pensively profound premise that spoke such volumes about our generation of artists living in this digital age. This is one of the rare times I have ever seen Fassbender (possibly a first) in a comedic role and he pulls it off wonderfully. The premise actually goes deeper than the advertised premise that is equally refreshing and enlightening. It is the perfect musical comedy to end your summer with! And who else wouldn't want to see Maggie Gyllenhaal in all her aggressive and badass glory?! Definitely be sure to check out this week!

LA Film Fest is finally done and I've rated all the films I've seen at the fest here! But here I am selecting the top 5 films I've seen that were worth mentioning. And let me tell you, it includes a lot of prison action/turmoil/mis-conduct that'll surely boil your blood in more ways than one. In no particular order, I have listed The Overnighters, Out in the Night, Frank, The Life and Mind of Mark DeFriest, and Starred Up as my top 5 films that I watched at the LA Film Fest. Not only are these films thought-provoking but they hit very close to home with their powerful message that transcend social commentary and invoke personal introspection. Without a doubt, these films challenged me as a viewer because all these characters go through a tremendous amount of a discrimination that I can completely relate to on a small scale and to see their story come alive in a much larger way, brought tears to my eyes. It is filmmaking at it's finest. Definitely check it out when it comes out!

It's been a couple of days since I watched The Counselor and I can't help but be baffled by the spectacle of Ridley Scott's latest piece. Maybe it's worth viewing due to its oddly messy yet intensely sexualized/bloodstained vignettes. I don't know, I just had such high hopes for this film and sadly, I was sorely disappointed! I honestly would've rather watched Bad Grandpa! The primary reason why the film did so poorly was due to Cormac McCarthy's inept first screenplay. Although, it was unbearably bad, Cameron Diaz made this film totally worth it with her sultry, sexiness, and bad-assness that was permeating all throughout the film. The Counselor definitely should've been retitled, Cameron Diaz being a badass bitch.
