Michel Gondry's Mood Indigo is one of the film I've been anticipating to make it to the U.S. market. Good thing Drafthouse Films acquired it and will be releasing it in July! If it has Gondry's name + romantic theme, I am LIT.ER.ALLY all over that like peanut butter on jelly! The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is hands down one of my favorite films ever! With it's moody cinematography, innovative mis-en-scene, mind twistingly brilliant storyline, and idiosyncratic performances by Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet, it's no wonder why I love Gondry's unparalleled and creative vision!

Mood Indigo is an adaptation of the 1947 novel Froth on the Daydream by Boris Vian. This is a surreal and poetic tale of Colin (Romain Duris), an idealistic and inventive young man who meets Chloe (Audrey Tautou) and falls in love. Shortly after they get married, Chloe becomes diagnosed with an unusual illness cause by a flower growing in her lungs. Gondry seems to be tackling a more delicate subject of love and death which almost always will make me bawl from just a shot of someone crying alone (the fEeEeELz)! Mood Indigo seems like the ultimate tragic love story but from what I hear, it is a visual masterpiece like his other films. I simply cannot wait to see another powerfully tragic  love story that embodies all of his thematic quirkiness of infectious whimsical imagery and heart-swooningly offbeat characters. Mood Indigo comes out July 18th.

I'm so late on this! I've been interning at the Look East Festival so I've been swamped and haven't had time to blog! I had no idea Michel Gondry was coming out with two films! As I mentioned before that he is coming out with a coming-of-age film 'The We and the I' that has more of a documentary feel contrary to his usual quirky, surreal, and  fanstasy infused stories he is known for. Well, have no fear because he's back. I mean look at the image below, is that a floating car or an amusement park ride? Either or, I need more Gondry in my life.

I've been getting the stills from different sources and at the first site, there was this orange tint that gave the film a similar tone much like Jean-Pierre Jeunet's films. But after seeing the original stills from a French film site, it seems as though they were edited. These stills are the real deal!

Gondry's Mood Indigo is based on Boris Vian's 1947 novel "L'Ecume des Jours" (or "Froth on the Daydream"), stars Audrey Tautou as Chloe, a woman who marries an inventor but falls ill during her honeymoon due to a water lily that emerges her lung, and the only possible way to treat the sickness is to surround her with fresh flowers, a sacrifice that soon wipes out his funds. The cast includes Omar Sy, Jamel Debbouze, Romain Duris, Gad Elmaleh, Alain Chabat and Aissa Maiga. Regardless of it just being a story of a woman whose lungs are inundated with a flower, the stills sure looks beautiful. It's the usual idiosyncratic story that Gondry is known for that is sure to bring joy and heartache to his audience. It's called L'ecume des jours in French and there is no certain release date out yet, so watch out for it!

Theres a new Michel Gondry film coming out and I know fans couldn't be happier. What I expect is the usual witty, whimsical, and mind-bending stories that he has been known for. But after watching 'The We and The I' trailer, it feels more like an optimistic version of Larry Clark's Kids (1995.) It tells a heartfelt story about the final bus ride home for a group of high school students and graduates. It has the coming-of-age charm to it but don't let that fool you. It seems like its packed with punches of freshness that we haven't witnessed before so candidly. The film premieres at Cannes this month, but has no release date yet. But its GONDRY, i expect to see a release date later on this year and i cant wait. It's so raw and emotionally charged. The film industry needs this kind of film. I need this kind of film. And after all the blockbusters, I think we will all need this kind of film. Thank you, Gondry.
