for those avid readers, you probably already knew this from my valentines post. but for those new readers, let me let you in on the news. derek cianfrance is coming out with a new drama with ryan gosling and michelle williams as married couple, whos undying love starts to dwindle as time passes.

time is essentially their enemy and this is no news for anyone. time can warp and twist anyone into someone completely different. in many ways, its an inevitable process. the love that we once thought was so real and passionate can be deemed as stagnant and bland just years later. love that is suppose to be so empowering and everlasting becomes fickle with its emotions. just the photographs alone make me want to see the film. not only is it passionate but real. these are real events that take place in everyone's lives. and like time, they are inevitable.

look how effing gorgeous they are. heres a first look clip of the film. supposedly it comes out dec 31, 2010!!!

for fellow sex and the city fanatics like myself, it is common knowledge that michael patrick king, who have written and directed most of the series' episodes, is an utter genius. and let me say that within the context of the series. but what should enthrall fanatics with the second installment of the franchise's widely successful first film, is a flop. the trailers continuously lowball audiences into thinking that a film will actually be good and that satc 2 would be no exception. it was too good to be true. aiden (john corbett) was back and gasps and shrills were heard across the nation by middle age women (like myself, tehehe). with the twist like that, what could possibly go wrong?

apparently everything. king knows what every girl wants and he usually delivers with the mind-blowing fashion, witty lines, deliciously handsome men, and gasp worthy plot twist that continuously leave hopeless romantics around the world salivating for more. only this time, he knew that with the dedicated fans he has accumulated from other the years that he can just half ass the sequel. as an avid fan, there are many things i would have changed. but that doesnt give away to the amount of dismay i have over the fashion, witty lines, or plot twists. indeed in every scene, the four women possessed immaculately hand-picked outfits complimenting their personality. but not for a moment were the hundreds of bug-eyed women i was sitting with truly impressed with their attire. yes they were on more conservative ground but nonetheless, it didnt command the scene like the pink number did in the first film. (you all know which pink dress im talking about!)

as the girls escape from their big city troubles. there is little to no sex or the city to be seen. as they shuffle their jimmy choos through the dunes of abu dhabi, i cant help but wonder, was it really necessary to emphasize the widening caste system between the americans and the arabs? i almost strayed away from the story as i was sympathizing more for their servant than their actual "problems." but enough ranting from your average satc fangirl, i guess those sayings are right: the worse the reviews, the more money the film makes. but im sure king knew that all along... :D C

the nuart loves showing some fucked up movies. my friends and i walked out of the theater choked with the same feeling we got after watching lar von trier's anti-christ. WHAT. THE. FUCK. on one hand, it feels me hope as a filmmaker that i can make a film, on the other, the film itself is a very clever film and scheme to make a ton of money. people eat this kind of shit up. whether it is machine girl, robogeisha, or something just as ridiculous like the human centipede, people are willing to spend their ten bucks to witness the outrageous, quite disturbingly humourous spectacle. but who wouldnt. (case in point, even i did) it was something that had to be seen to believe.

but unlike anti-christ, it lacked the artistic suave of true filmmaking. but who am i to say its not? i guess it can be better deemed as a B Horror film, which it is with unnecessary comedic relief which is just as ridiculous as the rest of the film. but what i give them huge points on are its poster design. it ACTUALLY makes you want to watch the film! note to self: dont be deceived by its cover!! but regardless, it is an experience whether you watch it in theaters or on tv. just dont expect anything more than a sideshow of absurdities all strung together like eerrm... a human centipede. :D

thomas balmes knew what he was doing when he decided he wanted to make a documentary about babies. yes, in fact, babies are very intriguing to watch--witnessing their developing features and behaviors and adapting to each environment is a spectacle that should be seen. but within this film that is an explosion of cuteness, there is not that much is taught or learned. to balmes, he wanted to capture the daily life of a baby in all its glory. but the audiences (or shall i say females) that the film is targeted to, it is nothing but a spectacle of babies cooing, crawling around, walking. it is a documentary without a narrative. the film is surprisingly heartfelt, joyous, and well, really freaking cute. but what were left is with are images of babies from four different continents. we are unmoved and unenlightened. but really, whos going to say no to these cuties. scott pilgram eh? another michael cera movie eh? well. im sure the producers got him when he was on his wild streak, but now, no one even wants to see his face let alone see another movie with him in it.

wrong. i do.

haah. but really, i was getting kind of tired of cera after nick and norah's infinite playlist, paper heart, year one, even youth in revolt (i stopped caring after paper heart) but now comes along another cera movie, and i think i want to actually see it. scott pilgram vs. the world. ive been reading some of the comics and maybe i havent gotten way into it yet, but it just seemed like another story about a teen-angst kid. but judging by the trailer, its going to be more than i expected. esp, out of him. its out aug. 13!!!!

ppppppretty awesome. check out the other characters from scott pilgrim.

MICMACS!!!!! the director who brought you amelie and the city of lost children is back with micmacs!!! it is about a man and his friends come up with an intricate and original plan to destroy two big weapons manufacturers after being lodged with a bullet to his head. its original french title is macmacs a tire-larigot, (non-stop madness). the film is billed as a "satire on the world arms trade.". and that is exactly what we get from the film.

jean-pierre jeunet. what can i say about the man. he knows cinema. he knows how to tell a story. in all his films, he has incorporated what a real film should entail: interesting story and character. but he takes that to the extreme. his characters are embedded with such originality and quirks that one cant help but admire and be fascinated by them. his use of mis-en-scene is truly incredible. he is able to think of a situation or scene, and map out exactly what and how every color, object, person, should be. his attention to detail and imagination can be unparalleled. check out the trailer

how else can you really describe this matthew vaughn film without saying it was fucking KICK. ASS. im not going to sugar coat it, vaughn really havent been making the best movies (mediocre: layer cake, stardust) until NOW.

Kick-Ass is a 2010 superhero film based on the marvel brandished comic of the same name by mark millar and john romita, jr. brad pitt's production company, plan b helped co-produce it and was co-written by jane goldman.

The film tells the story of an ordinary teenager, Dave Lizewski, who sets out to become a real-life superhero only to get caught up in a bigger fight. He meets Big Daddy, a former cop who, in his quest to bring down the evil drug lord Frank D'Amico, has trained his eleven-year-old daughter to be the ruthless vigilante Hit-Girl.

ok. most people went in with the intention that they were just going to witness another humorous comic-adapted-into-film kind of movie. but what they got was much much more. we were not only surprised by the uncensored presentation of blood and violence but even the profanities were shocking (gasp!!). esp, if its coming out of a 11 year old girl's mouth. chloe grace moretz (hit girl) not only made the movie good but she has marked her ground as one of the most memorable action heroes out there right now. she is everything ive ever wanted to be since before, now, and forever. (foreshadow of a possible halloween costume)

i havent read the comic yet but it is clear that vaughn made absolutely no compromises to adapting the comic true to its core. judging by the cover of the comic, it wouldve been hard to stay true without the presence of a plethora of bloodbaths (very reminiscent of kill bill), knives diggin into peoples skulls, and some real ass kicking!! even nicolas cage as hit girl's idiosyncratic father played big daddy with plausibility. the stories dug in deep of the people who usually stands by while crimes are being committed. and how those people built up the courage to stand tall and do something about it. A-

mary ellen mark is another reason why ive become so absorbed into the world of set photography. she has worked on more than 50 film sets all ranging from the most prestigious sets (ahem, apolcaplyse now, babel, satyricon, tootsi) from film's past.
vanity fair says: With photographs from more than 50 film sets, Mark’s recently published book, Seen Behind the Scene: Forty Years of Photographing On Set (Phaidon), provides a revealing look at how the movies get made.

ive worked on a few sets as the set photographer and all i can say is that i love it. it really makes me want to minor in photography. i do still need a lot of practice but with time, im sure my mad skills will perfect itself!! oh and i secretly just want to be tommy ton and just take the most amazing fashion photographs at the most world renowned fashion weeks!

un chien andalou is salvador dali and luis bunuel's masterpiece. it presents everything surrealism stands for. even through its simple and incoherent mash-up of shots, there is a constructed form behind it which makes the film so brilliant. this is such a incoherent structure that can only be mastered by the one and only, bunuel. chhhecck it. (if you have a chance, check out his other films: the discreet charm of the bourgeoisie, belle de jour)

its been a very busy month for film students. ive been working on a couple of sets whether it is as a camera assistant, script sup, set photographer, or just a pa. nonetheless, im glad im at least working on a few sets. and even with the amount of school work and work that is encompassing my social life, i have an urge to start new projects of my own (and actually finish them.) my cinematography class is letting us actually shoot with film and so, i quickly conquered up a radical yet trivial story about god knows what ( i wont reveal it until after production.) and i just finished my first assignment which i will probably post up soon.

but i really want to start making art videos. possibly experiment with montage and other film theories. and just make random videos that mean absolutely nothing. hahah basically.

there are many updates yet to come. im going to update my website and hopefully update this blog and the other one more consistently. and basically start doing more shit!!! aiight im out!

itunes writes: Breaking Upwards' follows a young, real—life New York couple in a fictional narrative loosely inspired by their open relationship. After four years together, the two have grown stifled. Desperate to escape their ennui, but fearful of life apart, they decide to intricately strategize their own break up. Based on an actual experiment in real—life devised by filmmakers and partners, Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister—Jones, the film interprets a year in their lives exploring alternatives to monogamy, and the madness that ensues. The couple inhabits a hyper—articulate, emotionally layered world where twenty—somethings are portrayed in a complex and thoughtful new light. An uncensored look at young love, lust, and the pangs of codependency, 'Breaking Upwards' follows its characters as they navigate each others' emotions across the city they love. It begs the question: is it ever possible to grow apart together?

and what the fuck is this? a breaking upwards rap video? chhyeaaa...

i really think this is going to be really awesome. or extremely, emotionally, draining.
and it should be out april 9th at the laemmle in la.
