the genius behind monty python and the holy grail, brazil, twelve monkeys, and fear and loathing in las vegas is coming out with another film, i KNOW for sure that wont disappoint. this is heath ledger's last film and already by the preview, you know that he will surely deliver. as well as three other a-list actors and the hottest studs around tinseltown-- johnny depp, jude law, and colin farrell. i honestly. cant. wait! gilliam always does films that seem to tap into the human brain to wholly show in mind-blowing visuals whats actually going on in there.

this film comes out on xmas. you can count on me to skip my family dinner and be the first one in line with my red and green knit santa sweater with a gallon of popcorn wrapped around my barely visible fingers. tehehe.

there seems to be a lot of films coming out (aprox. 3) with the number 9 in it: 9, the animated action flick, directed by shane acker. district 9, which is this trailer. and nine, the musical by rob marshall, staring daniel day lewis!

or go here...

ive seen a trailer for this film before which had more explanation of what the movie was going to entail. but this was one of the previews for bruno and i found this version to be absolutely stunning and empowering. the sound effects and how the whole trailer came together was enough to give me chills up and down my spine. i cant wait. district 9 comes out august 14!

p.s. i hear that how theyre promoting this film is quite good. like on bus stop there are district 9 posters saying " this bus stop is only for humans. " hahahah nice. i hope this film shows the audience that at a certain point we should stop discriminating against people or ... anything! but as far as ive been alive, i think people have found usless reasons to hate and sadly, i dont think it will be going away anytime soon.

NEVER in my life have i laughed so hard at the movie theaters till i saw Bruno. rarely, does anything at the theaters make me laugh but i assume it was the combination of sacha baron cohen's ruthless acts to acheive famedome by any means--even if he has to bring peace to the palestinian and israeli fued-- and with the hint of realism that really made me have a laughing seizure in my red velvet seat. with all his satirical acts and trickery, it all came together beautifully as he further explores how gays are perceived in the u.s.

of course, this film is not for everyone. it was almost rated as NC-17. and amazingly, i wasnt really shocked with any of his ridiculous acts and more amused at the way he went about his tactics. and when i really think about it, i can almost call it a love story. yes that's right, a love story. And if you thought Borat was outrageous, DO NOT expect anything less than that from Bruno, because he will take you to the most uncomfortable places on earth that will surely make you feel like theres something up your back door. Tim Burton is making his own remake of Alice in Wonderland and of course he is having his two beloved actors, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter respectively, to play the mad hatter and the red queen. to my surprise, anne hathaway is chosen to play the white witch. and newcomer mia wasikowska is set to play alice.

firstshowing.net said that "Interestingly, this is somewhat of a sequel to Disney's animated movie from 1951. "Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn't remember."
im extremely excited how this film is going to turn out. ill keep you posted until tim burton's alice in wonderland comes out on march 5, 2010 on both 3-d and 2-d. yayyyy!

I honestly wonder what goes through Jim Jarmusch's head when he starts a new project. like i understand what he was going for when he wrote and directed the limits of control; he wanted to talk about the subjective aspects of life. and so, with those ideas he concocted a film that is just that: a subjective film. and now in many ways, i related to the character when he said "I used my imagination." because the movie in its entirety was a bore. but each frame was shot so beautifully that it would be more appropriately be studied at a film school. I must admit, i almost fell asleep watching him walk around and sip his two cups of expresso in silence for 90% of the film. But don't get me wrong, that's not all that happens, when the characters do speak, it is worth listening to. and i hung onto every word while they stated their own subjective views of art, film, and life in general. and now that i think back, I'm beginning to understand what kind of message Jarmusch wanted to get across but I don't think I can state it sufficiently here. I would just recommend people to watch it with caution. But understand that everything in life from the little bugs crawling on the floor to the outer space satellites that circle the earth can be and is subjective. GRADE: __

i recently discovered cocorosie and i dont know how i possibly got through the day without them, let alone my whole life! this is one of the many many innovative and idiosyncratic songs that i absolutely adore. the lyrics are just downright hauntingly beautiful...

Now that I’m alone I feel the lonely brokeness
Of all the wicked avenues I’ve ever sold my love on
All these moments of meekness and trembling subsided
In the outright abandon of this orphan child
Home is on the highway living on soft bread and solace
I guess I’m waiting for nightfall or a solar eclipse
And to wake up half empty
Only to be filled again with mourning
He’s my evil shadow dove
My black Palamito Can’t break him like a diamond skull
I can’t seem to do so Can’t just rob him out like the
mob used to do so Like memories of porno and tearstains
and tobacco O its a miny disastro
Bigger than the ice age don’t know if baby dinosaurs
Maybe could live through it, like indians and butterflies
What’s crushed is my spirit, O I fear it is too fragile
Like fall leaves burn like paper

I always knew I would spend a lot of time alone
No one would understand me
Maybe I should go and live amongst the animals
Spend all my time amongst the animals
And on the tracks I would go they lead to the sea
To be amongst the animals

Oh I’m just a fill leaf something simple and shy like that
That’s how my heart lies down beside the sidewalk
Like an empty restaurant filled with perfume and balloons
I sit and entertain the bizarre ghosts of my soul
His name still lingers maybe lactates on my tongue
Perhaps I’m just teel him for a foreign fallen destiny
Miserable but mine I look like his mother
Or Sophia Loren in a old fashioned movie
Slow motion motion I cling to my child desperate for love
On day soon my brother died made me remember all the
Subordinate feelings I cast aside
Maybe I had lied when I said I was ok
Just getting along like a little song that stops to sing and say
“Wild willow, windy winter won’t you blow through me
My who eternity”

my love for art  is increasingly growing everyday and its no wonder why with the mind-blowing and extraordinary art work that people create everyday. in the wake of hurricane katrina, considering how many houses and shops were abandoned, one group of artists called KKProjects decided to "take over and reuse the deserted space in artistic ways--creating new spatial experiences around and within what were otherwise depressingly doomed structures."

its inspiring what kind of message people can convey through installation art. theres a more thorough explanation on the site. its refreshing to know that death in many ways can be the only solution for a rebirth.

...tomorrow, where would it be? for me it would be...

yep, thats right. it'll be TOKYO! michelle, nikki and i decided to go watch the cinematic triptych of three simulating tokyo-set stories directed but none other than michel gondry, leos carax, and joon-ho bong. it has the same style as paris, je t'aime and new york, i love you; each of the directors made their short about their own perception of human relationships and interactions based in japan. i cannot wholly say which short i liked the best. each one them had their own whimsical twist and turns. but what i can say about it is that its completely worth checking out. even if that means driving 30 minutes out of your way...

sorry for my lack of explanation. it would be better if i could just make a video to express how i really feel about each short more thoroughly. im actually gonna think about it. cause writing is becoming more mundane to me as the days past. i want to be able to express my thoughts and feelings visually, if that is any way possible.

It seems a group of activists in the Ukraine calling themselves the UA Resistance, invoked the spirit of Tyler Durden by lighting up the side of an apartment complex in the form of a giant smiley face. The act was done in a non-violent effort to make a statement about the corruption causing high prices on apartment flats in the country.

hello there! ive practically been "dead" so my apologies. like many of my fellow bloggers, i have decided to write only when i am inspired. that may be everyday or ever other month. however, i will do my best to provide you with all the latest information about new film releases or of my recent viewings. i know i have been focusing on film in general in this blog, but ive decided to branch out. i may talk about my museum field trips, art exibitions, architecture, photography, books, artists, musicians, or just whatever the hell i want. so to start off the renovated and improved blog, i shall talk about the films ive seen so far... and what i may have learned from them...

* i cant really give ratings to these films cause theyre almost all subjective...

january:
im not there.
the warriors.
meeting people is easy : radiohead is more brilliant than they ever were.
slumdog millionaire.
revolutionary road : i dont want to live in the suburbs. i need the city lights shining down on me.
ichi the killer :
the wrestler.
yes man : that i should start saying yes more. which i have. and now, i think i cornered myself into hanging out with certain people i dont want to.
audition.
joint security area.
three extremes.
dumplings : apparently eating babies will make you younger. and the things people do to retain their youth.

February:
the strangers : horror stories dont neccesary need to make sense anymore.
soylent green.
the odd couple : jack lemmon can play one hell of an annoying guy.
palindromes : we've been brainwashed as children to want children
suicide club.
little children. people never try to see the situation from the other side. they never want to place themselves in someone elses shoes. they will always think THEY are right. and we are wrong.
he's just not that into you : protrays women as crazier than ever. and its true. we are pretty crazy when it comes to the opposite sex.
ran.
the reader.
milk : that i should support gay marriages more passionately and vigoriously
rachel getting married : anne hathway proved herself worthy for an oscar. and the script is aaah-mazing.
the lives of others : people will always look upon each other with jealousy
eraserhead : you can make up a crazy story but if the lightings good, your film will be great
THX: 1138 :
muriel's wedding.
step up 2 : i really just want to dance.
the seafarers.
301/302.

march:
coroline : amazing. just AMAZING.
the jonas bros experience : im glad i walked out of the theatre in one piece.

trouble everyday : i never thought there could be a film that would shake me to the core of my bone like this film did. i honestly am speechless. the images, acting, music, lighting were all so haunting that if i even think about it for a second, i will get nauesous. this is good filmmaking. but honestly, i dont ever want to see this film ever again. it was like watching a car crash in slow motion. excrusiating. yet, you cant look away. you've been warned.

so there you have it. yes, i do have a life outside of my movies. but i just choose to revolve my life around them.

im honestly, completely worn out. almost 50 days of consistent movie watching. its as if i have been drowning in moving pictures...

Is this love?

Revolutionary Road is about a young couple in the 1950s living in new york suburbia trying to come to terms with their personal problems. Sam Mendes, who also happens to be Kate Winslet's husband, beautifully crafts a story depicting the static and conformed lives in suburbia. i was enthralled with the reunion of the powerhouse actors known simply as none other than kate and leo. winslet continuously impresses me more and more with each project she pursues. these two actors set the bar so high for each other that you really shouldnt expect anything less than a chilling and phenomenal performance. their passion and chemistry with each other is simply undeniable.

do not expect to come out of the theatre happy. be prepared to feel emotionally drained as you walk of the theatre. i was mostly depressed for many minutes thereafter as i contemplated about the possible altercations to my future life. And even though i watch many films with devastating plot lines, after i usually walk out thinking what an incredible film that was. but with revolutionary road, i was just DEPRESSED. it was good. it was raw. it was incredible. but something was different. it made me think differently about how i wanted to live my life. i guess the film slapped me in the face and help me fully realize that i should live life as it should be: without regrets. and as i now and have lived my life without regrets, it propels me to live life even more to its fullest extent. with or without love. my legs move faster and faster
as my heart remains static in the past
sweat drips down my face
i turn to only see a boulder rapidly rolling down
i wont fear
i wont judge
i wont yell
i will accept what's already been done
so i stop in my tracks with my heart in my hand
i close my eyes with fear washed across my face
in hopes that the boulder wont crush me once again
my legs stand frigidly
sweat enveloped palms rubbing against my heart

it slows down.
a look of optimism.

smiles turn into frowns
when the sun shines, the only thing thats next is darkness
it rolls down faster and faster
i will not run
accept. accept. accept.
i stand. just stand.
the mound finally strikes
thousand bolts of light rip through my body
i open my eyes to find that i am alright.
i am ok. i am fine.
or i will be fine.

fear disappears and i look down
to see that the only thing it really took
was my heart.

i think this year i watched more films than i ever did in five years. i watched about 127 new films this year. and thats just NEW films. i tend to watch at least one film everyday before i eventually fall asleep. 2008 wasnt a GREAT year but it was a year of progressing development and experience. i mean every year should be a year of development and experience but this year has a little bit more to offer. i watched everything from foreign to the 60s to indie to blockbuster films. ive been getting lazy the last half year that i didnt actually realize the kind of impact the films that i watched this year had on my life, until now. and to think of it, i have discovered new directors and new films that i now consider my all time favorite because of this year. i guess now i can say i had a pretty good year in the film department.

my all time favorite director, stanley kubrick has had a huge impact in my life due to his iconic films.

feb. 21, 2008: A Clockwork Orange

after one kubrick film, youre hooked.

feb. 24, 2008: 2001: a space odyssey

march 1, 2008: eyes wide shut
april 7, 2008: lolita

april 10, 2008: THE SHINING!!!

wow, ive watched some amazing films this year that are seriously worth checking out.

feb. 29, 2008: harold and maude

march. 20, 2008: cecil b. demented

david lynch

march 27, 2008: mulholland dr
march 30, 2008: inland empire (honestly dont watch this at night or by yourself. i learned it the hard way..)

april 4, 2008: lady vengeance

april 14, 2008: IRREVERSIBLE!!!

april 29, 2008: brazil
may 9, 2008: 8 1/2
may 14, 2008: the piano teacher
june 25, 2008: the wackness
july 18, 2008: the fountain and the dark knight

july 29, 2008: elephant

july 30, 2008: conversations with other woman
sept. 5, 2008: blow up
dec. 4, 2008: cache
dec. 24, 2008: changeling
dec. 25. 2008: the curious case of benjamin button

whew! there are so many more films that i watched but these are the significant ones that have become my utmost favorite. i hate making resolutions cause half the time i dont accomplish them anyways but here we go.

1) watch more films (naturally)
2) get into film school
3) improve my photography skills
4) travel
5) be happy and have fun

haahhaha is that too much to ask? i hope everyone enjoyed 2008. until next year. bye!!!

those ' i <3 ny' shirts were made for a reason and anyone who buys it obviously buys it for one purpose and one purpose only: CAUSE THEY REALLY DO LOVE NEW YORK! and as a born-californian, i am sad to say that i no longer feel like a true californian after my journey to the big apple. it was such a surreal feeling that i couldnt actually fathom the the reality of the situation. i still cant believe i went and came back from new york so quickly. but i honestly, cannot wait to go back in the spring. tribeca starts the week right after my spring break so im going to have to work my magic and try to work around that. i didnt take many digital pictures but as soon as i get my film photos developed, i will post them.

i just love everything about new york. i love it how everyone wears black. i love it how everyone smokes. i love it how its all gloomy and seasonal. i just love it how it feels so damn real. even if at times it is -15 degrees with wind blowing at about 100 mph.

sjkdfssjdgksjg, and since im back in sunny ol' cali, im going to have to lock myself in my room and really try to complete my essays and portfolio for film school. also restart my membership for netflicks. i really do miss my old cinephile self. i think the only way to actually be productive is by becoming the insanely obsessive film buff that i used to be. if thats what it takes, then thats what i shall become.

and with that said,
new york, i love you!

p.s. i think im going to try to make a foreign language short about ny for my portfolio. hopefully it works out.

since i am already failing school, i might as well just update you of the oscar worthy films yet to come.

wendy and lucy already came out yesterday but kelly reichardt's lastest independent film starring michelle williams is sure to hit close to home. it may seem like a 'into the wild' for girls with a slightly different motive. it is about an alienated woman who decides that there is nothing keeping her in her home state of indiana and sets out to relocate to canada with her trusty dog and companion, and try to potentially seek work at a local fish cannery. just watch the trailer.

or go here...

the trailer oozes doses and doses of vulnerability. when writing this, reichardt thought of the financial crisis our country was going through and the endless amount of victims suffering from its consequences. the last scene is truly haunting to me in that williams projects the downfall of the american middle class workers. it simply isn't enough to just pass by, but the struggle and hassles one encounters ultimaltely, becomes unbearable as you can witness. its filmmaking at its most rawest.

as you can see, i was overly dressed for the event. i just wanted to look nice. IS THAT A CRIME?! i think not. shortly thereafter, i had to leave because discovery channel was coming to my school to shoot the astronomy department. the episode is called cosmic collisions or something, so watch out for that..

oh yyyyes, the preview of the documentary i did for the national guard is now up online. cccccheck it. my group had tonya as our feature national guard... and she was aaaa-mazing.

and yeaaah, ive heard so much about amoeba and never been so sally and i decided to stop by for a liiittttle visit.

look at that. seriously. it was HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. im a fan of music but im a bigger fan of dvds. and as soon as i got to the dvd section, i started to hypervenilate. no joke. it was an astronomical amount of dvds from different countries and genres. i was like a kid in a candy covered disneyland. and the sea of cute boys didnt hurt either...

so yeaaah, i always wanted a film filled day but man, it was exhauuuusssssting...
but honestly, even though it was physically and mentally draining, I LOVE EVERY MOMENT OF IT..

or go here...

i think it was bach's cello suite no. 1 that got to me...
